Today we launched a new member of the Bang & Olufsen family. The most rugged speaker Bang & Olufsen has ever made: Beosound Explore. Considering size, sound and price, we would like to compare this new portable Bluetooth speaker with one of our most popular speakers in the same category, namely Beosound A1 2nd generation. Below we will outline the similarities and differences between our two most portable B&O products.
Both speakers:

- deliver Bang & Olufsen Signature Sound.
- are perfect for an active lifestyle with a fully dust- and waterproof design (IP67 certification*).
- support Multipoint: connect two devices at the same time.
- offer fast pairing with Microsoft Swift Pair and Google Fast Pair.
*IP67 certification: the product is completely protected against dust and sand particles and can withstand submersion in water up to 1 metre deep for up to 30 minutes.
So what are the differences between the two products?
- Beosound Explore is the first speaker on the market equipped with type II anodised aluminium, making it 3x more scratch-resistant than Beosound A1 2nd Gen.
- Beosound Explore is also the first Bang & Olufsen product with an integrated carabiner, allowing it to be attached to, for example, a backpack on long hikes.
- Beosound Explore features the latest Bluetooth 5.2 – Beosound A1 2nd Gen has Bluetooth 5.1.
- Total battery life is 27 hours for Explore compared to 18 hours for A1 (at typical listening volume).
- User experience: The tactile buttons on Beosound Explore are placed on top of the speaker, making them fully visible and easy to access. On Beosound A1 the buttons are less visible, as they are placed on the side of the product.
- Beosound A1 is equipped with three microphones that enable conference calls.
- Beosound A1 features fully integrated Alexa voice control with wake word – Beosound Explore does not offer voice control.
